The village of Rio Nell'Elba is situated on a hill, 25km (15mi) from Portoferraio, on the eastern side of the beautiful holiday island of Elba. Once a mineral mining area, the island now hosts many museums displaying the various minerals, but most tourists visit Elba to enjoy its sandy coves and hilly countryside. From its highest peak there are spectacular views towards the Tuscan coastline. The village is 800m (0.5mi) from the resort and 2.5km (1.5mi) from the village of Rio Marina, where there is a pebble beach.
